Nkumba University Vice Chancellor Prof. Hannington Ssegendo met the students today after they held protests yesterday demanding the University Administration drops several new policies that the Academic Registrar Christine Obonyo had introduced.
Addressing the students Prof. Ssegendo said that there would be no increment in the re-take and missed paper fees. Christine Obonyo had hiked the missed paper fees from Shs 20,000 to Shs 100,000 for a missed paper while for Retake fee she had increased it from Shs 100,000 to Shs 200,000.
The university administration has agreed to extend the registration deadline to November 30 after the academic registrar set a deadline Saturday November 16, for all students who hadn’t registered by this date would miss exams.
“I am glad that the University administration has extended the registration deadline. The Academic Registrar introduced the registration deadline without officially communicating to the students. Many of us weren’t aware that there was a deadline” a student spoke to entebbenews on phone.
“We also wanted the academic registrar to resign but the Vice chancellor has promised he is going to investigate and he will get back to us” a highly placed source told entebbenews.
The Vice Chancellor also told the students to report to him any arrogant staff so that they would be disciplined.
Meanwhile the exams which were supposed to begin tomorrow have been postponed until further notice.
S&S enterprises and other shops operating around Nkumba University remained closed for the better part of the day
