With the Uganda Cranes set to face off against Algeria on Monday, June 10th, the team behind the Namboole Stadium is working tirelessly to ensure the playing surface is in top condition.
Speaking in an interview with journalists, the Namboole project engineer, Eng. Lt. Col. Peter Kidemuka said that they’re tirelessly working around the clock to ensure the stadium’s playing surface is ready for tomorrow’s match.
“Our focus is now on the next match,” he said. “The few people you’re seeing around on the pitch are trying to rejuvenate our playground.”
Kidemuka added that the recovery time for a playing surface is 5 days, but with the Cranes hosting Botswana on Friday evening and then Algeria just after 3 days, at the same venue, the engineering team has had to work constantly to get the field ready in time.
“The recovery time for a pitch is 5 days, but because we have a match on Monday, we have to work tirelessly to ensure it’s well watered and patch up grass because it hasn’t yet fully matured,” he explained.
Despite the tight schedule, Kidemuka assured Ugandans that the playing surface will be “very ready” for Monday’s crucial match against Algeria.
The national team will host Algeria tomorrow (Monday) at 7 pm in a World Cup qualification game. A win for the Cranes will boost their chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
