The President of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), Moses Magogo has revealed that the redevelopment of Nakivubo Stadium will enable the hosting of more night games. This announcement comes as the historic stadium is set to reopen to the general public following extensive reconstruction efforts.
The redevelopment of Nakivubo Stadium was spearheaded through a private-public partnership with businessman Ham Kigundu. The renovated facility is now equipped to support modern sports events, including night games, thanks to the installation of floodlights.
Highlighting the progress in Uganda’s sports infrastructure, Magogo stated, “Today Mandela National Stadium is coming back, Nakivubo is back and Lugogo is taking shape. St. Mary’s Kitende is available and has floodlights, Kadiba construction has resumed and is ongoing. We intend to have floodlights there as well. The turf at Njeru is worn out but it is in our plans to replace it and also put floodlights. We want to have more night football.”
Magogo also revealed that the government has allocated UGX 100 billion in the next budget for the construction of Akii Bua Stadium, which he described as “good news” for the future of Ugandan sports.
Nakivubo Stadium is set to reopen to the public on Saturday, June 1st, with a variety of activities including football, netball, and basketball matches, along with entertainment events.
Tickets for the grand reopening are available on Next Ticket with Ordinary tickets priced at UGX 50,000, VIP tickets at UGX 100,000, and Executive tickets at UGX 150,000.
