In a significant move for Ugandan sport and corporate social responsibility, MUCHO International Limited, a leading private company in solar energy solutions, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Uganda Canoe Federation (UCF) to promote and develop the sport of canoeing, particularly in the Eastern region of Uganda.
This innovative partnership marks a strategic alignment between business and sport, aiming to create a ripple effect of development at the grassroots level.
The collaboration will not only contribute to the expansion of canoeing as a sport but also allow MUCHO International to fulfil its corporate social responsibility (CSR) goals by investing in youth empowerment and sustainable community growth.
“We believe in the power of sport to transform communities,” said MUCHO International CEO, Mr Arthur Kwizera “Partnering with the Uganda Canoe Federation allows us to give back to society in a meaningful way while promoting sustainability and the values of discipline, teamwork, and resilience among the youth.”
As the first major step under the new MoU, MUCHO International has officially committed to sponsoring Uganda’s Junior Slalom Team that will participate in the prestigious 2025 ICF Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom World Championships, scheduled to take place from June 30 to July 14, 2025, in Foix city, France.
This sponsorship will cover a flag off event (also marking the official MoU signing on 24 June 2025, Return tickets for the 2 Athletes and their Coach, and Travel Insurance, giving them a competitive edge on the world stage.
UCAF Secretary General, Mr Isima Iga lauded the partnership as a “game-changer” for canoeing in Uganda:
“This collaboration with MUCHO International opens new doors for talent development and community outreach in Eastern Uganda. We are excited to grow the sport from the grassroots and prepare our athletes for international excellence. It is a win-win for sport and social development.”
The partnership is expected to expand beyond the initial sponsorship to include training clinics, equipment donations, solar-powered infrastructure for canoe training bases, and community outreach programs designed to identify and nurture young talent across Uganda’s eastern corridor.
As Uganda continues to raise its profile in global sporting arenas, this alliance stands as a testament to the power of collaboration between the private sector and national federations in shaping the future of sport, sustainability, and youth empowerment.
