MTN Uganda has taken note of the widespread concerns voiced by the public and has reaffirmed its dedication to addressing the specific challenges linked to data depletion, as highlighted in the ongoing social media campaign #DataTheftExhibition.
Acknowledging the grievances raised by numerous Ugandans, including notable figures from the entertainment industry, regarding the rapid depletion of their data GBs within a short period, MTN Uganda has issued a statement to directly tackle these issues.
“MTN Uganda takes these concerns very seriously and is dedicated to addressing them,” the company stated.
Additionally, the telecommunications giant has reiterated its commitment to assisting customers through various channels, including social media platforms, toll-free lines, and physical service centers. This serves to underscore MTN Uganda’s ongoing dedication to providing exceptional services and prioritizing positive user experiences.
Customers are encouraged to utilize diverse communication channels, including X (formerly Twitter), WhatsApp, toll-free hotlines, and physical service centers, reflecting the company’s unwavering focus on ensuring customer satisfaction.
Recently, George William Thembo Nyombi, the Executive Director of the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), emphasized the gravity of issues related to data billing and usage integrity. He shed light on ongoing investigations aimed at addressing these concerns.
Nyombi underscored the urgent necessity of resolving issues surrounding data billing and usage integrity, emphasizing that investigations had uncovered various contributing factors to this widespread problem.
“The issue of data billing and usage integrity is of utmost concern,” Nyombi stated, emphasizing the importance of promptly addressing the matter.
According to Nyombi, consumer-related factors exacerbating the issue include instances of automatic downloads and content inundated with excessive advertisements, resulting in unexpected data consumption.
Nyombi stressed the importance of consumers taking proactive steps to address these challenges, emphasizing the critical nature of resolving issues related to data billing and usage integrity.
In terms of network-related factors, Nyombi highlighted the necessity for precise data metering and transparency from service providers, echoing the sentiment that concerns over data billing and usage integrity remain significant.
In February of this year, singer Moses Ssali, widely known as Bebe Cool, threatened legal action against Airtel Uganda, a telecommunications company, when 22GB of data depleted within a short period, despite no data usage recorded.
Similarly, another artist, Priscilla Zawedde, also recognized as Azawi, recently voiced concerns with Airtel Uganda regarding a similar occurrence. She disclosed that despite not utilizing the 22GB of data purchased for streaming or any other purpose, it expired within two days.
