Describing the recently prolonged drought as a tough lesson for Uganda, the Entebbe Municipality Member of Parliament Hon. Rose Tumusiime has warned Entebbe residents to desist from encroaching on the environment. Hon. Tumusiime who was speaking during the Easter Sunday prayers at St. Andrew’s Church of Uganda in Kigungu, noted that human activity is entirely responsible for the prolonged drought because many human beings are recklessly cutting down trees and have also encroached on swamps for their own selfish gains.
“I was in Karamoja recently and the situation there is really alarming and worse. Many people there don’t have what to eat. All the water sources have dried up because of the drought. For those of you who have what to eat and drink, always thank God and don’t take things for granted. My humble appeal to you is to plant as many trees as possible because we need to save and protect the environment”, Hon. Tumusiime said.
Hon. Tumusiime said that these days so many people no longer cherish Uganda’s motto For God and My Country. She said that today robberies, hatred and crime are on the rise in Uganda because people have abandoned God. She urged Christians to always seek God’s forgiveness.
She urged the locals to always remain security conscious and report all suspicious persons in the areas to police. She tasked Christians to always participate actively in development activities in their respective churches. She noted that many Christians today sleep in posh houses and yet pray from ram shackled churches that don’t give God Glory and Honor.
