Uganda water and Environment Minister Ephraim Kamuntu has bitterly warned investors over developing structures on wetlands in the country. The minister said on world wetlands day at the Lutembe Beach that investors have played a big role in destroying wetlands.
Kamuntu noted that investors have paid a deaf on matters regarding wetland conservation and protection and that this has contributed to several natural disasters including floods. The minister warned investors to stop using wetlands for their personal gain. He also called for the immediate arrest and cancellation of permits and licenses of investors found developing structures on wetlands.
Every year the Uganda joins the rest of the world to celebrate the world wetlands Day with Government Agencies, Non- Government Organisations, Environmental and conservation organizations in a campaign to protect wetlands from being ‘eaten up’
