An association of Ugandan migrant workers named Migrant Workers’ Voice has threatened to petition courts of law seeking redress over the unclear death and burial of one of their members, months ago.

The deceased is Shadia Najjuko, 31, who passed away in Saudi Arabia in June 2021.

In the intention to sue letter to the Attorney General’s chambers, the body wants Government to intervene in the matter to ensure that the bereaved family gets justice.

These say they were approached by Sarah Nabukeera, the mother to the late Najuuko, who told them that the company that took her daughter to Saudi Arabia has not been able to assist the family members.

“Our client’s efforts to get a post mortem report and retrieve the body of the late have been rendered futile. Indeed, this is buttressed by the report issued by the Ministry of Gender indicating that the government failed to obtain a medical report and death certificate to prove the cause of death and neither has the ministry been provided information pertaining to the place of burial of the remains of the late,” submitted Organization’s counsel

The Najuko Shadia was reportedly externalized by ABS Consult Group Limited Company, to go and work as a house maid in Riydh for Bajdaa Jaza Qaynan Almutai.

“The intent of this letter therefore is to request your good office to advise and engage the line ministry and other relevant authorities to spearhead the process to exhume remains of the late Shadia Najjuko, return the same for a decent burial and compensate the family reasonably for the loss caused failure whereof we shall seek legal redress,” the lawyers wrote.

Migrant Workers’ Voice is a Non-governmental Organisation which has been working to assist migrant workers whose rights have been violated.

These have given Government an ultimatum of 10 days period to react on the matter failure of which they will seek legal redress in the courts of law.
