Veteran musician Mesach Semakula has explained the reason behind the VIP ticket prices for his upcoming concert.
Mesach Semakula will be celebrating 50 years of greatness in the industry. He is one of the few artists who have been bold enough to stage VIP concerts with a starting price of 150K, shifting away from standardized ticket prices of 20/30K.
Speaking in a recent TV interview, Mesach explained how expensive it was to organize a concert in this era. According to him, a concert at Cricket Oval cost at least 250 million, and many artists have ended up getting loans to make it happen but, in the end, do not get to reap much.
“Lately, everything is very expensive. You spend millions in input, the whole time you do not know if people will even come or not plus other technicalities. That is why you find some people losing their property because of the flopped shows,” he said.
The concert will happen at Kingdom Kampala on 13th November, and Mesach revealed he is not afraid of a low turnout due to the hiked ticket prices.
“Everything has its own target market. To earn from the cheap tickets, one has to have gotten so many people to get some profits out of it. But because of how much we invest in, we can never profit from such amounts. We have to change a little to see that we earn something out of it,” he said.

In an effort to curb counterfeit tickets and protect revelers from being duped, Mesach Semakula, just like Irene Namatovu, imported tickets printed from abroad.
“We are trying to be safe. We invest in so much money with some of it being loans. Before, people used to duplicate our tickets. You sing for a full crowd but almost half of them have duplicated tickets. Now, we are trying to minimize fraud and we print out these tickets with unique codes that cannot be re-scanned,” he said.
