Over five hundreds traders are set to be evicted from the Kitooro market and relocated to another area over the construction of a new modern market in Entebbe. This follows after the municipal authorities giving traders an ultimatum of two weeks to vacate the market area to develop a modern storied market facility with over one thousand stalls under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development program in 14 municipalities including Arua, Gulu, Lira , Soroti, Moroto, Mbale, Tororo, Jinja, Masaka, Mbarara, Kabale, Fort Portal, Hoima and Entebbe. The disgruntled traders for the last couple of weeks have been having sleepless nights and headache after the municipal authorities ordering them to vacate the market area to construct a modern storied market facility with restaurants and offices under the World bank grant.
The development has sparked a bloody war amongst the traders and local authorities over the development to relocate traders to a new temporary market area at the Kiwafu playground. The development has sparked a bitter row amongst local councilors that are fighting tooth and nail over Mayor Vincent Kayanja Depaul development plan. Councilor Mathias Kafeero has fired back at the local authorities not to play cat and mouse games.(By Entebbe News Media)
