Singer Maro, real name Ronald Magada, has opened up about some of the darkest moments in his life and career, one of them being the rumor that his wife married him.
Maro had relocated to Germany with his longtime lover, Iris, with whom he had been together for over a decade. Six months following his relocation, several blogs claimed that Iris had married him because she had more money than he did.
During his interview with Galaxy FM, Maro revealed that the allegations drove him into depression that he struggled to overcome.
Maro further revealed that his friends back home wanted to host him for interviews, and he chose to do them via Skype. Because he was home alone with his daughter, she kept running in front of the cameras and exposing her face.
“I kept my child and my struggles as a man away from the public. For the interviews, we agreed with my friends that they would blur my child’s face. That time I was at home alone which means that my daughter was bound to interrupt my interviews because I couldn’t lock her out. She kept running into the camera and checking on me and they never blurred her face. Remember the stories on the streets that my wife had married me and when they saw me with my child, it made things worse. My child’s face was all over. This pushed the narrative further,” he said.
During this time, Maro revealed that he made four albums during that time as a means of fighting the depression.
“I made four albums during that time thinking I was fighting depression but later I cooled down. I remembered why I started and that no one sent me to do what I was doing. The whole of Uganda was on my side because when the rumor went viral, I stepped back for like 6 months and then they started calling me asking when I would get back. That lifted me up and reminded me that I was still a star,” he said.
