Manchester United has announced the retention of three Nigeria-eligible players, Habeeb Ogunneye, Max Oyedele, and Victor Musa, for the forthcoming season.
The trio, listed among the U24 players retained by the club, join prominent names such as Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho, Mason Greenwood, and Rasmus Hojlund.
Habeeb Ogunneye, an 18-year-old right-back, made significant progress towards first-team involvement last season. Despite being named in the matchday squad for nine games, including crucial FA Cup and Premier League matches, Ogunneye did not feature on the field. His appearances on the bench for high-stakes games against Manchester City, Liverpool, and Arsenal highlighted his potential.
Victor Musa, a central forward, debuted for the U21s in a Premier League 2 match against Newcastle last December. He further participated in matches against Derby and Middlesbrough, showcasing his development.
Max Oyedele, a defensive-minded midfielder, spent part of the second half of last season on loan at Forest Green Rovers. However, he was recalled in March 2024 due to a lack of game time.
These young talents are eager to continue their development and aspire to break into Manchester United’s first team in the near future.
