Manchester United has announced a major £50 million renovation project at their Men’s training ground known as Carrington Training Complex.
This comes after the club has been previously criticised for having sub-standand training facilities, most notably in 2022, when Cristiano Ronaldo described Carrington as “stopped in time” before leaving the club.
The project is set to commence on Monday, June 17th, and will see all areas of the men’s first-team building refurbished, creating a world-class football facility designed to support the club’s future success.
According to the official club statement, the initial focus will be on upgrading the gym, medical, nutrition, and recovery areas, with a emphasis on designing more collaborative and innovative spaces for players and staff.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe, co-owner of Manchester United, expressed the club’s commitment to providing the best possible environment for their teams.
“We want to create a world-class environment for our teams to win. It was clear that the standards had fallen below some of our peers, and this project will ensure Manchester United’s training ground is once more renovated to the highest standards.” He said.
The renovation work is expected to last throughout the 2024/25 season, with temporary adaptations made to the rest of the Carrington site to ensure the continued smooth operation of all teams.
Last year, Manchester United opened their £10 million state-of-the-art women’s and Academy building, underscoring the club’s commitment to creating an integrated, world-class facility for their entire football department.
