A 40-year-old man in Mbarara has been arrested for defiling his four-year-old niece and infected her with HIV/AIDS.

Samson Kasasira the Rwizi Regional Police Spokesperson identifies the suspect as Alex Tumusiime.

Kasasira says the incident happened on April 29 in Bugashe cell, Nyakayojo division in Mbarara municipality.

He says Tumusiime performed a sexual act with a female juvenile (names withheld) well knowing that he was HIV positive, after buying her a soda and a cake and convincing her to enter his house.

Kasasira says the case was reported to Ruti Police station on the May 3rd by the mother of the victim Juliet Nabukalu, and that Tumusiime has been on the run ever since, until recently when he was arrested by Ruti police and transferred to Mbarara central police station.

He says both the victim and suspect have been undergoing a series of medical examination, which concluded that the victim was abused and that the suspect was HIV positive

Kasasira further said that the victim has been put on medication (PEP) and her progress is being monitored by Doctors of Mbarara Regional referral hospital due to the effects of the drug.

He said Tumusiime will be taken to courts of laws and charged with aggravated defilement when the investigations are over.”
