A hijab is a veil worn by some Muslim women in the presence of any male outside of their immediate family, which usually covers the head and chest.
The news was confirmed by the Tanzanian local newspaper, The Citizen, which reported the words of the detective from the cybercrimes investigation department at the Police Headquarters in Dar es Salaam.
He said that the three Ugandan students from Kampala International University have disseminated the photos through social media such as WhatsApp groups.
THE BIG PICTURE: This case may be similar to the one in Burundi concerning the doodling case where schoolchildren are sometimes accused of doodling or defacing the photo of Burundi Head of State, Pierre Nkurunziza in the school textbooks. Recently, schoolchildren accused of this case were jailed and released afterward.
Three students such as Amenitha Konga (19), Mariam Tweve (20) and Agnes Gabriel (21) are accused of distributing pictures mocking President Magufuli.
Sharing a photo of a male person wearing a Hijab, usually worn by women in most Muslims countries, might be portraying scorn for the personality, usually depicting someone’s submissive characters.
The picture of President John Pombe Magufuli shared on social media wearing hijab is reportedly shared in the Human Resource Management WhatsApp group.
“When asked where she got the photo, she said she got it from another WhatsApp group known as ‘Empire’ where it was posted by her colleague, Maria Twelve,” The Citizen reports.
It appears that the photo went viral on social media after being shared by one social media user, and was shred and re-shared over the Internet again and again.
