Every year Uganda joins the rest of the world to celebrate the African Prisons day across the continent. Thousands of prisoners across the continent celebrate this day with joy and happiness as reformed prisoners need to be accepted back in the society after serving their jail sentences.
Uganda is ranked the ninth country in the world with the most crowded prisons with more than 38,000 inmates and more than fifty (50) prisoners scattered across the nation. Recently all prisoners in different state owned facilities celebrated the ‘African Prisons day’ and paid back to the community by slashing bushes and clearing water springs at no cost.
Hundreds of Kitara prisoners have been smiling from the bottom of their hearts after they received over one hundred free blankets from the Uganda Prisons services to bail them out on the cold nights.
