Uganda extended their winning run with a 78-49 victory over Rwanda in the FIBA U18 AfroBasket Qualifiers held at the MTN Arena Lugogo. This match highlighted Uganda’s dominance in both offensive and defensive play.
Uganda’s Kagaba Musiime was instrumental in the win, scoring 15 points, making 2 rebounds, and providing 1 assist. Edrine Ekau and Mubiru Nkugwa Mukisa Andrew also contributed significantly, each adding 11 points. Peter Serunjogi led in rebounds with 9, supporting Uganda’s control of the game.
For Rwanda, Gabriel Ndoba Mwimba was the standout player with 11 points and 7 rebounds. Despite his efforts, Rwanda struggled to keep up with Uganda’s pace and accuracy. Juru Cedrick Ntigurigwa added 7 points and 2 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to close the gap.
Uganda established an early lead, ending the first period at 11-15. They extended this lead significantly in the second period, outscoring Rwanda 19-7. The third period saw Uganda dominating even further with 31 points to Rwanda’s 7, putting the game beyond reach. Rwanda managed to score 20 points in the final period, but Uganda’s steady performance ensured their victory.
Uganda demonstrated superior shooting accuracy, with a 42% field goal percentage compared to Rwanda’s 23%. They also excelled in 2-point and 3-point shots. Despite Rwanda’s higher free-throw percentage, Uganda’s overall consistency and fewer turnovers played a crucial role in their win.
The Silverbacks will return to action today evening as they take on Kenya.
