Registrars in the Judiciary have received brand new SUVs to facilitate their movement while on official duties.

The vehicles were handed over by the Permanent Secretary to the Judiciary, Pius Bigirimana, during a ceremony held at Judiciary headquarters in Kampala on Tuesday.

PS Bigirimana described the fleet handover as a deliberate effort by Judiciary management to improve the transport facilities of the senior managers.

“For quite a long time, the Judiciary has had challenges of transport especially those in visiting locus and day to day work for judicial officers. Often, they had to look for lifts but this is changing,” Bigirimana said.

He reassured the beneficiaries and other stakeholders who had gathered to witness the handover that this is the first time Registrars are getting brand new vehicles allocated to them.

The High Court Registrar, Samuel Emokor, who spoke on behalf of the Registrars, said it was a “momentous occasion”.

“This is groundbreaking because it is the very first time in my judicial career that I am seeing Registrars receive what we term as brand new cars,” HW Emokor said.

He noted that while judicial officers of different cadre have received new vehicles, the Registrars had never been considered before. He noted that this category of Judicial Officers had always received “hand me down cars” that have completed their work elsewhere.

He thanked the Judiciary administration for the deliberate move that will improve their mobility while carrying court work and commended the efforts of the PS/SJ for taking up the fight for Registrars that has seen them benefit.

A total of 12 Sport Utility seven-seater vehicles were procured. Of these, nine will go to Registrars, while the remaining three have been allocated to senior administrators.

The vehicle recipients are; Ms Maureen Kasande (Undersecretary), Registrars; HW Samuel Emokor (Registrar High Court), HW Rosemary Bareebe (Registrar Magistrates Affairs and Data Management), HW Kwizera Amos (Planning and Development), HW Flavia Nabakooza (Commercial Court), Ms. Apophia Tumwine (Commissioner Human Resource) and Mr. David Sunday Kikabi (Principal information Technology Officer).
