Police in Wakiso District have arrested 2 Local Defence Unit (LDU) personnel over the killing of former Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) President, Robert Kagolo.
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire said Kagolo was shot dead by one of the LDU militants guarding his late brother’s home in Kasengeje in Wakiso District, central Uganda.
The shooter has been identified as Rashid Mamuli.
The deceased was a journalist working with Star Fm radio under Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC).
“It is alleged that his (Kagolo) family had asked for security from the LDU commander and 2 LDU personnel were given to them to guard their home since all families members had left for burial,” said Owoyesigire.
“Unfortunately today, a scuffle ensued between Kagolo and the LDU and one of them shot at Kagolo,” he emphasized.
“We don’t know whether it was intetional or not. But he died on his way to St Joseph Hospital in Wakiso District.”
Reports indicate Kagolo’s brother was also shot dead killed a raging land wrangle last week.
Owoyesigire said investigations into the incident are still underway.
