
After successfully hosting the 4th Uganda International Woodball Open Championship 2016, Uganda yet again is hosting the 5th Edition at the serene lakeside Kisubi Beach. The fifth Edition officially teed off on Friday with Primary and secondary schools going neck to neck in the one day singles event. In the primary schools (Boys category), Muyanja Abubaker (Buziga Islamic Primary School), Bob Mpaddwa (Nalinya) and Gismala George (Green Acres Junior School) finished in first, second and third position with 66, 73 and 76 strokes respectively.
In the girls category, Poni Margaret (Green Acres), Rashidah Nalwadda (Nalugala) and Namakula Shirat (Motherwell) finished in first, second and third positions with 82, 85 and 89 strokes respectively.
Phillip Carl Nadiope (Kyambogo College) outclassed his competitors and topped the Secondary schools boys log with a total of 60 strokes. Ivan Ssemakula (Airforce) and Leonald Nuwagaba (Luzira Secondary School) finished all square with an identical tally 63 strokes.
Irene Dawa (Airforce secondary School) topped the girls’ secondary Schools log with 79 strokes while Mary Charlotte Atukunda (Mpoma School) and Leticia Kwagala Naboosa (Kyambogo) finished all square with an identical score of 80 strokes.

All the top three winners from the various categories walked away with medals courtesy of Uganda Woodball Federation, International Woodball Federation and the Chinese Embassy in Uganda which has funded the 5th Edition to a tune of USD11,000 (approximately 39.6million Uganda Shillings). The one day event attracted a total of 67 participants from 21 Primary and secondary schools.
Chinese Ambassador to Uganda, Zheng Zhu Qiang who presided over the official tee off, hailed Uganda Woodball Federation for successfully spreading the game of woodball in Uganda.
The International Wood ball Federation President, Mr. Ming Hui Weng congratulated Uganda Woodball Federation for hosting the 5th Uganda Woodball International Open Championship and called on all stake holders to work for the development of woodball in Africa and Asia.

Meanwhile 49 players will participate in the seniors and corporate categories with Chinese- Taipei, Hong Kong, Tanzania, Kenya, Burundi, Nigeria, Rwanda, Ethiopia, and Eritrea among the foreign participating nations. The championship will climax on Sunday July 2, 2017.
