Vijana Na Foundation Uganda, a non-Governmental Organization (NGO) based in Rubaga Division in Kampala and Human Rights awareness and Promotion Forum have vowed to defend the rights of over 50 arrested prostitutes operating in Abaita Ababiiri, Katabi Town Council over prostitution and Public Nuisance charges. The two organizations that work under the Most At Risk Population Initiative umbrella claim that the arrested prostitutes have no case to answer and should released immediately by Entebbe Police.

“We are here at Entebbe Police to make sure that our clients get bond because prostitution isn’t a crime. We want our clients to resume their work. One of our clients Aisha Nampeera was beaten by the Abaita Ababiiri OC Station James Kakaana and she sustained injuries on the head but unfortunately Police officers including Kakaana have been intimidating her not to speak out. All we want is for our clients to be released unconditionally because they have been held since Thursday when they were arrested”, a Human Rights Officer who spoke on condition of anonymity told entebbenews.

Meanwhile the Entebbe Police OC CIID Zachariah Mbabazi has vowed not to release the arrested Prostitutes adding that Police has concluded with processing their files and they have been forwarded to the State Attorney for sanctioning.

“We (Police) are not releasing the arrested prostitutes because the files have been forwarded to the State Attorney for Sanctioning and will be paraded in court tomorrow Wednesday.  Over 90 criminal elements including the prostitutes were arrested in a crackdown in Abaita Ababiiri on Thursday because of the increasing crime rate in the area. Regarding James Kakaana the Abaita OC Station who beat up Aisha Nampeera also a sex worker in Abaita, I tried to reconcile the two of them but I failed and I forwarded the file to the State Attorney for advice”, Zachariah Mbabazi revealed.
