Wakiso Resident District Commissioner Eng. Ian Kyeyune has urged government to increase funding for Municipalities and urban centers. Kyeyune who was speaking during the second Urban Forum meeting that was held on Wednesday at the Imperial Golf View Hotel in Entebbe Municipality revealed that it’s due to low and meager resources that Municipalities and urban centers fail to implement their master plans. Kyeyune revealed that government should give priority to urban centers because the rate of urbanization in Uganda is high. He said that urban centers are grappling with slums, poor service delivery and infrastructural challenges. Kyeyune disclosed that unless government wakes up and increases funding to the urban centers, Uganda will continue to bear the brunt of “biological development” with no guided strategic and physical plan. The two day seminar was attended by a host of Municipality Development forum presidents and Town clerks from different districts including Arua, Fort portal, Gulu, Hoima, Jinja, Kabale, Entebbe Municipality, Masaka, Mbale, Mbarara, Lira, Moroto, Soroti and Tororo.
The seminar was organized under the theme: Participation for Sustainable Urban Development. Lessons From Municipal Development Forums. The Urban Agenda.
