In a bid to foster a spirit of brotherhood and cooperation between Uganda and Israel the Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Tourism has cracked a juicy deal with a yet to be identified Israeli Construction firm to erect a mega solid facility in honor of Israeli Prime Minister’s Late Brother Jonathan Netanyahu who was killed while commanding the Israeli elite commando unit Sayaret Matkal during the operation Entebbe (Raid On Entebbe) to rescue 106 hostages that were held at the Entebbe Airport by former Ugandan Dictator Field Marshal Idi Amin Dada in 1976. Only 102 out of the 106 hostages were rescued but Jonathan Netanyahu was killed in the cross fire. After the bloody battle Uganda became infamous on the International Stage with no country wanting to associate itself with Field Marshal Idi Amin’s brutal government. Uganda and Israel have since put the matter to rest after Amin was overthrown in 1978.
And now Entebbe Municipal Council in conjunction with Ministry of Tourism have allocated nine square meters (9sq. meters) at Chang Sha Model Primary School Entebbe where the monument will be erected in remembrance of the gallant Israeli Defense Forces Soldier (IDF). Construction of the monument will be funded by several Israelis. Mayor Kayanja who revealed the developments during the 2016/17 budget reading on Tuesday appealed to the public to embrace the project because it will boost Tourism between Uganda and Israel. Mayor Kayanja also confirmed that Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will a pay a state visit to Uganda in July to promote bilateral trade between Uganda and Israel.
