
A senior government officer has unveiled a new approved master physical plan for Entebbe municipality ahead of city status.
Simon Kabanda, a senior planner unveiled the 20yrs approved physical plan during the annual meeting for the Municipal Development Forum (MDF) for Entebbe.
“Reviews for plans are underway gearing towards city status including promoting the blue economy, beautification of the peninsula line with beaches and forest reserves”, said Kabanda.
However we have several challenges as government including community attitude, delayed action plan, deteriorating cultural values, poverty and HIV”, says report.
And more so, their several opportunities that the municipal authourities are working on to tap into and these including the Kampala-Entebbe expressway, Entebbe Airport, Tourism development and the availability of commercial services.
The municipal planner also squashed allegations that their plots in Kitubulu forest and also beaches levying a fee for public access.
“Plans are in pipe-line to develop the bus transport networking connecting Kampala capital city and more so the Buwaya-Mpigi linkage”, said Kabanda.
In related development, Samson Semakula also USMID coordinator revealed the ‘good news’ about the shs14bn fund under the USMID cluster 5 that has been earmarked to the construction of different roads in the municipality and these include Kampala road (2.058km),market street(0.130km),Hill lane(0.141km),Lugard avenue(0.123km),Apollo square(0.115km),lighting of mayors garden and the auxiliary road also known as Movement road(0.387km).
In the second batch of the USMID program includes the re-roofing Kitooro taxi park, Serufusa road (.103km), Jinja road (0.9km, John Babiha road (.784km), Kitooro service lane (.158km) and other projects.
“The municipal development forum executive also visited the 2km road to be constructed by the Chinese company in the heart of the municipality” said CDO Ssekagiri.
