Over 20,000 Ugandans have been targeted to benefit from the newly implemented project of constructing a grade three health centre at Nakiwogo landing site in Entebbe municipality under the Calvary chapel. This was revealed on Tuesday during the official launch of constructing a health facility for residents around Nakiwogo bay and the surrounding areas.
While officiating the launch, Pastor Linquist Craig of Calvary chapel Uganda, expressed the need for more medical facilities to the Ugandan population and more especially the people living on islands. “We have been sending out medical support to different islands on lake Victoria through a program termed Island mission. The program has lasted for eleven years and we felt a need to construct a physical health facility from which will be our basis for continuing with the same work and also looking forward to benefiting the population of Nakiwogo and the nearby areas, which is above 20,000 people,” explained Mr, Craig.
According to Mr. Robert Kigundu who heads the Island mission program, many people on several islands mainly suffer from malaria, STDs, diarrhea, Cholera, dysentery and others resulting from poor hygiene, and yet they have no single medical facility for treatment. “As we continue to lobby for poor Ugandans more especially those at different islands, we call upon government and other stakeholders to help island people more especially in the field of health,” requested Mr. Kigundu.
Islands have always benefited from the ‘island mission’ program include, Sese island, Kakyanga, Zinga, Kimi, among others.
The ceremony which was held at Nakiwogo landing site, was graced by an international gospel singer Jeremy Camp from USA, who had spent nearly a week while doing charitable work in different parts of Uganda. Others were, Mr. Carlos Kallzuk from Philadelphia, Mr. Carry Steckman of CitiHope in USA, William Danny from USA, among others.
A medical camp saw free medication and counseling given out to Nakiwogo residents and those in nearby areas.
