Kampala Associated Advocates Lawyer was arrested last week after illegally evicting residents using police officers in Entebbe. Jet Tumwebaze was arrested on Saturday on the orders of Uganda Police Assistant IGP Director of Operations Andrew Felix Kaweesi after evicting residents from former Obote regime minister Grace Ibingira’s land in Nkumba Kavundira Zone.
The lawyer was arrested after using police officers to unlawfully evict residents and families occupying the twenty five acre land currently owned by Late Ibingira’s son Alfred Ibingira. The lawyer was grilled for several hours in a heated meeting organized by the Wakiso District Woman Member of Parliament Rose Mary Sseninde with residents over the controversial land matter.
The land was acquired and bought from the Buganda Queen Slyvia Nagginda’s Grand Daddy Ssebugwawo with no squatter. In May 2013, Kampala High Court ordered all squatters not to develop any structure till the land matter is sorted out. Many of them persisted and erected structures which were demolished last week.
