
For close to a month former Public Service Ministry Permanent Secretary Martin Lagara who had been battling Cancer of the Colon breathed his last in the wee hours of Wednesday Morning at the Mulago Cancer Institute. Lagara who was known as a true friend, gentleman and a God fearing man was under palliative care when breathed his last. He was first diagnosed with Cancer in Nsambya Hospital however when the cancer Machine broke down he was referred to Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya for a month. He was returned home after a slight improvement but when his health started deteriorating drastically he was rushed to Entebbe General Hospital where he spent a week. He was again admitted to Mulago Cancer Institute where it was discovered that the cancer had spread so rapidly and nothing much could be done to save his life.
Entebbe St. John’s Church Vicar Reverend Emmanuel Ssewanyana who led a service at the deceased residence on Wednesday described Late Martin Lagara as a God fearing man who lived an exemplary life and connected well with young people.
“I remember when we had just come to St. John’s Church, Lagara was the first person who welcomed me and my family”, Rev. Ssewanyana told the mourners. He will be laid to rest in Bongotina Village in Gulu District on Monday.
