Heart breaking news washed the whole world on Monday July 5, 2021 as former Ugandan presidential contestant and minister Aggrey Siryori passed away at a private medical facility in Naalya, Kampala.
The former ICT minister and former presidential material died at the age of 82yrs after spending over a month in Hospital
Aggrey, who is brother to former Kenya’s Vice President Moody Awori died Monday afternoon and his wife Thelma Awori and a friend confirmed.
“He has been sick for last couple of weeks till the lord took his life”, said family source.
Aggrey has been bed-ridden with health complications and as an old man, he has been up and down with pressure plus other disturbing diseases.
Awori was voted the best legislator in the sixth parliament and lost the political ball to Stephen Mugeni Wasike in the subsequent election.
The former Uganda People’s Congress diehard later crossed to the ruling(NRM) party and in 2011 contested for the Busia municipality seat.
He was out beaten from the political game by Kevinah Taaka Wanaha of the Forum for Democratic Change(FDC) party.
.He was Minister for Information and Communications Technology from February 16, 2009, to May 27, 2011.
Mzee Awori represented Samia-Bugwe North, Busia District in the Ugandan Parliament from 2001 until 2006.
He was an outspoken opposition Member of Parliament for the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) political party before crossing “legs” to the ruling yellow NRM party.
In 2007, he quit and abandoned the UPC party and joined the ruling National Resistance Movement.
Moody and Aggrey Awori are sons born to the late Canon Awori(RIP), who died in 1971.
The father was an Anglican church founding member in the East Africa region while the mother Mariamu Odongo Awori, was a nurse and community teacher.
Aggrey is a brother to former Kenya’s Vice President Moody Awori who also served as Funyula MP for 25 years.
