A businessman in Mbarara has been arrested police for allegedly trafficking a 22-year-old man and sodomizing him with the promise of getting him a job.
Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Regional Police spokesman, has confirmed the incident and identified the suspects as Nelson Tumushabe, a businessman in Mbarara Central Market, accused of sodomizing and trafficking a 22-year-old male resident of Kisenyi cell, Kakoba ward, Mbarara City.
Kasasira says that the incident allegedly occurred on the night of October 10, 2023, at 1 a.m. when the suspect, under the pretext of offering a job, took advantage of the victim, who was actively seeking employment in Mbarara City.
He says that on the preceding day of October 9, 2023, at around 7:30 p.m., the victim encountered the suspect at Mailo 2 on Masaka Road, where the suspect, feigning familiarity, engaged the victim in conversation, where the victim shared his job-seeking intentions and the suspect assured him of employment.
Kasasira says that later that night, at around 1 a.m. on October 10, 2023, the suspect brought the victim to his residence in the same area. It was there that the suspect allegedly threatened and forcibly engaged in anal intercourse (sodomy) with the victim. The following morning, the suspect took the victim for breakfast and then to Mbarara Central Market, where he worked. It was at this point that the suspect informed the victim, who lacked a national identity card, that employment would be difficult to secure. Subsequently, the victim reported the incident to the police.
Kasasira says that a task team conducted a medical examination on the victim, revealing signs of inflammation consistent with sodomy. This led to the arrest of the suspect. Further investigation at the scene uncovered significant evidence, including 22 personal lubricants, 52 condoms, 19 strips of HIV testing kits, and 2 tins of ARVs.
