The Association for Strengthening Agricultural Research in Eastern and Central Africa has officially launched a 14 member states knowledge and information hub at its headquarters in Entebbe.
The agricultural based organisation under their umbrella ASARECA launched the information center recently at a regional meeting organized at the Lake Victoria hotel.
The regional meeting under the theme “Knowledge Management, Monitoring and Evaluation under the CAADP-XP4 program.
The regional meeting was organized by the ASARECA secretariat to brain storm on best knowledge management practices across the regional member states, said executive director Dr. Enock Warinda also regional host.
“The need to improve innovative capacities of our agricultural scientists and electronic library is key in agricultural development”, said Ben IIakut also ASARECA communications director.
“The E-library to have annual reports, published information, impact stories, maps, newsletters and policy statements to be available at the Ki-Hub”, noted Ben Ilakut
The ASARECA information hub to be accessed thru the organisation website or online portal with uploaded information including experts’ dialogue, success stories and technology parks.
“The E-portal to have all relevant information including when to plant, how to plant, which market is available plus how to connect to farmers, journals and all data to be available at the knowledge information hub“ said ASARECA Boss.
Information to be used by policy makers and advise to parliament plus reach out to donors to be available at the knowledge center.
In order to improve communication in agricultural research in 19 countries, communication specialists ,knowledge managers and experts under the agricultural umbrella ASARECA recently gathered to map out ways on improving agricultural communication and skills most especially in innovations.
Standards for knowledge sharing and information within and outside the region is emphasis to members, noted Baguma Dickson also director NARO Bulindi ZARDI region.
