Hundreds of traders are spitting venom after the municipal authorities opening half way of the new Kitooro Taxi Park in Entebbe.
The municipal authorities headed by the town clerk Charles Magumba have positively embraced the storied container shops to start operating as the lower part remains fenced off after more acquired funding from unknown sources as one Declark Mwesigye gets under way with his project to start operating.
Following the successful bidding process, Scaffold Engineering and Construction firm based in Kampala was awarded the contract to redevelop Kitooro Taxi Park.
Speaking at the official handover of the site to the contractors, Town Clerk Charles Magumba said that the redevelopment of Kitooro Taxi Park was timely adding that the lockups in the taxi park were old and were condemned ‘long time ago’.
He added that the newly redeveloped Taxi Park will have over 200 lockups and all the land lords will be given an opportunity to reclaim their rooms following a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that was signed between the former landlords and municipal council.
Former mayor Vincent Kayanja Depaul witnessed the ground breaking ceremony plus the first phase of the construction and 5years down the road the project is still stalling with a bad report that was forwarded by engineers.
“It was reported that the storied building can longer hold more stories and enhance needed to stop their because of weak support”, said engineer report.
Earlier this year, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni officially launched and opened the Kitooro trading center market and left the Kitooro Taxi Park project where he addressed a big gathering.
And to make matter worse, the municipal authorities didn’t brief the president about the ‘remaining’ developments on the taxi park project including the added storied containers shops that have sprung up.
8months down the roads, traders are confused to the bone marrow including the taxi park authorities headed by one Mangeni Lovie Wandera over the next development to take another 2years.
“The taxi park has been fenced off by the municipal authorities after acquiring more funding in their coffers from unknown sources to add more stories on the ‘weak’ building”, said source.
