Former SC Villa President Eng. Immanuel Ben Misagga has clarified what led to the fall out between him and current president Omar Mandela, and his ultimate departure from the club’s affairs.
In a candid interview on NBS Sport’s show, “The Bench,” Misagga revealed that the fallout between him and the current president, Hajji Omar Mandela, stemmed from not being respcted as the president-emeritus of SC Villa.
“Although Mr. Mandela is my elder and also an elder of the clan, I don’t believe in someone yelling at me, given my age and social status. I can’t accept that. I’d rather go back to my village and practice farming,” Misagga stated firmly.
The former president further elaborated on the specific incident that led to his departure, explaining that he had arrived late for a club meeting, and Hajji Mandela yelled at him.
“I arrived late for one of the club meetings and Hajji Mandela yelled at me, that’s why I left. He just didn’t know who I am.”
“We disagreed on principle, and I told him that I won’t be coming to meetings chaired by him, because we were both doing voluntary work, without getting paid,” Misagga said.
He then emphasized that there should’ve been mutual respect and understanding between him and Mandela. “If you can yell at someone like me, a president-emeritus of the club, then you have no respect,” he added.
Hajji Omar Mandela, who had left the club affairs in 2005, was sworn in again as the SC Villa club president in November 2021, replacing interim president William Nkemba. Eng.
Ben Misagga, who had previously thrown in the towel as Villa president in 2018, was appointed to serve on Mandela’s executive committee as the vice president in charge of fan mobilisation, a position he served until the fallout.
