The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has revealed government is holding talks with Facebook on how the social media giant can resume its operations in the country. “There have been all sorts of speculation in regards to why Facebook is still off,” said UCC Executive Director, Eng Irene Kaggwa Ssewankambo. “There have been discussions between Facebook and the government to see how best this service can be used in the country,” she said. Detailed credentials for more than 21 million mobile VPN app users were swiped and advertised for sale online last week, offered by a cyber thief who allegedly stole user data collected by the VPN apps themselves. The data includes email addresses, randomly generated password strings, payment information, and device IDs belonging to users of three VPN apps—SuperVPN, GeckoVPN, and ChatVPN. Police in Iganga are hunting for one Yakubu Isabirye, a 25-year-old chapati seller for allegedly murdering Ali Kalulu, a 30-year-old casual laborer he caught in bed with his wife. The runner-up in the 2021 presidential election, Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine has asked the Supreme Court not to subject him to costs for withdrawing his petition challenging President Museveni’s election. On Friday, the Supreme Court allowed Kyagulanyi’s application to withdraw the 2021 presidential election petition but the justices said they would give a detailed ruling plus an order for costs later.
