Preparations are in high gear for the swearing in ceremony of President Yoweri Museveni next week.

The inauguration is slated for Wednesday May 12th at the Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala.

Minister for Presidency Esther Mbayo revealed in a statement today that the event is closed to the public and will only be attended by invited guests.

“The Swearing-In ceremony will be very different from the usual. In other words, it will be a ‘scientific’” she said.

“We have extended invitations to few numbers of people to the tune of 4,042. The logic behind limiting the usual numbers and the fanfare that characterize such functions is to be able to strictly observe the Standard Operating Procedures set out by Ministry of Health against the spread of Covid 19 pandemic. This function is therefore strictly by invite.

The theme for the Swearing-In Ceremony the minister said is, “Securing the Future”

Security forces have since heightened preparations to ensure that the inauguration is concluded without any threats.

“We want to inform the public that we are confident that the events will proceed in a very secure manner because it is an activity that we had planned for in a security master plan of policing the 2021 general elections. We have contingencies, counter intelligence against any threats surrounding the general elections,” said Police spokesman Fred Enanga yesterday.

“At this stage, we want to inform the public that there are no threats directed towards the swearing in ceremony although we do anticipate, as security agencies, disruptive activities from the disgruntled politicians and supporters through use of petrol bombs at motorists, burning tires, wanting to block roads among others.”

President Museveni was in January this year re-elected for the 6th term in office with 58.38% of the vote.
