Rukiga District leaders have launched an attack on former State Minister of Labour and Industrial Relations Hon Hebert Kabafunzaki, whom they accuse of misusing government money.

Kabafunzaki, who is also the Rukiga County Member of Parliament is said to have used to the Shs 20 million that was allocated to each MP for the Covid19 fight, to buy an ambulance.

The ambulance, however, he insists is his personal property.

Kabafunzaki on Sunday night while appearing on Voice of Kigezi FM, said after receiving the 20million from parliament, he added another Shs 75m to purchase the Ambulance number UAU 677X.

He says he then handed it over to the Rukiga District Covid19 Task Force to help in carrying patients, especially expectant mothers to hospital.

However, according to Pulkeria Mwine Muhindo, the Rukiga RDC, even though Kabafunzaki gave them the ambulance, it remains his personal vehicle since he remained with the keys and other essential documents concerning its purchase.

The RDC says the MP also tasked them to hand over his vehicle back to him immediately after the Covid19 lockdown.

It should be noted that President Yoweri Museveni warned MPs not to spend the Shs 20million, but to hand it over to the district task forces or to return it to parliament.

The President warned that MPs would be audited since they are not government purchasing officers.

Some councilors in Rubanda are now demanding that MP Kabafunzaki returns the Shs 20million instead.

“The ambulance he says that he purchased is in poor state, I doubt if it is even worth 10million. He should just return the money,” said one of the councilors.
