Court has sentenced Godfrey Wamala alias Troy to 13 years in jail in over the death of singer Moses Sekibogo (Mowzey Radio).
Troy was arrested shortly after Radio’s death last year and accused of killing the Goodlyfe crooner after the 2 engaged in a struggle. He was charged with manslaughter.
Mowzey Radio died in February 2018 after succumbing to injuries at Case Hospital in Kampala.
Last week, Justice Jane Abodo of Entebbe High Court convicted Troy of manslaughter.
Court ruled that the accused didn’t have malice aforethought to kill the singer even if he died following a bar brawl.
In her ruling on Thursday, Justice Abodo mentioned Troy is to spend 13 years, three months and 4 days in jail because he has already served 1year, eight months and 26 days in Kigo Jail.
“I’ve thought of the truth that the convict is a first offender, comparatively younger man able to reform however let temper get a better judgement of him and ended the life of a proficient and youthful musician which was a horrible thing. I therefore sentence the convict to a sentence of 13 years, three months and 4 days,” Justice Abodo stated.
The Judge had initially given a sentence of 14 years, however this was decreased because the accused has already been jailed for a interval of 1 yr and 8 months.
The convict has a right to appeal if he’s not happy with her decision, court stated.
Manslaughter is lesser offense than murder which attracts a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
It’s alleged that while at De Bar, a preferred hangout in Entebbe, Troy grabbed Mowzey Radio, who died at age 34, and threw him to the ground, fracturing his skull within the course.
This followed a brawl that reportedly resulted from the singer allegedly opening a bottle of whisky and pouring it on revelers within the bar.
