People Power movement suffered their first defeat in Entebbe after they lost in the Entebbe Municipality Division B Boda Boda Elections that were held on Friday at the Leisure Park. People Power candidate Sulaiman Ssegirinya aka Kalevu lost to incumbent chairman Saidi Joseph Katunguka who garnered a total of 400 votes while Ssegirinya got 247 votes. People Power/Team Kalevu lost all the other positions as Team Saidi scooped all the other posts that included Vice Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary, Publicity and Defence.
Saidi Katunguka who has won a fourth term in office will be deputized by Nuwagaba Robert who garnered 223 vote. Senono Vincent who garnered 362 votes will serve as Secretary while Kalemera George William will serve as the Treasurer after he won with 407 votes. Luwalira Francis aka Malwah and Mukasa Edward aka Kojja will serve as Publicity and Defence after they won with 348 and 508 votes respectively.
Every after three years, the Entebbe Division B Boda Boda fraternity under their umbrella organization EDIBBA holds elections and Saidi Katunguka will have served for 12 years when the next elections will be held in 2022.
Key Issues To Note;
While the Opposition in Entebbe didn’t mobilize for the people Power candidate, NRM leaders quietly mobilized for Saidi Joseph Katunguka and former Entebbe Municipality MP Aspirant Fabrice Rulinda did some ground work for Katunguka.
Several political observers told entebbenews that will not be an automatic or sure win for People Power in the 2021 general elections. Different Political observers disclosed that the Power of individual merit still counts a lot regardless of whether a candidate is on the opposition or ruling party ticket.
Meanwhile, Katunguka’s personality also propelled him to victory. Different Boda Boda riders testified to entebbenews that Katunguka has always stood with Boda Boda riders both in the good and bad times.
Out of the 849 registered Boda Boda riders in Entebbe Division B, 649 Boda Boda riders cast their vote.
