The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) Entebbe on Thursday commissioned three community water taps also known as Public Stand pipes (PSP) in the areas of Bunono, Kawafu and Kabaale (B)  Zones in Katabi Town Council. The NWSC Entebbe Area General Manager Mr. Turyahurira Jackson revealed that through their Service Coverage Accelerated Program 100 percent (SCAP 100), NWSC is extending safe clean drinking water to the less fortunate communities nationwide through constructing public stand pipes.

Turyahurira disclosed that last year NWSC constructed 80 Public Stand pipes in Entebbe Area and more 80 public stand pipes will be constructed in Entebbe Area this year so as to fulfill the NWSC Vision of ensuring that by 2021 Ugandans have access to clean and safe drinking water every 200 meters. He revealed that the locals will have to pay fifty shillings (Shs50) per 20 liter jerry can that will cater for the water bills.

Turyahurira warned Politicians and locals in the respective areas not to politicize the community water taps saying that they should benefit all people regardless of Political Party, religion and tribe. He tasked the locals to cooperate with NWSC to ensure that water thieves are arrested and apprehended at the Utilities court along Buganda road. He urged the locals to pay their water bills promptly and always report busts and leakages.

On her part, Amina Malishal the Katabi Town Council women councilor who lobbied for the public Stand Pipes thanked NWSC Abaita Ababiiri Branch Manager Barbara Tugume for extending safe clean drinking water in Bunono, Kawafu and Kabaale (B) Zones saying that the locals have been fetching water from wells which are a health risk because they are contaminated and Polluted. She appealed to the locals to utilize the Public Stand pipes well so that more are added.
