    Canadian Government, HENU Partner To Support Older Persons In Entebbe

    The Canadian Government has partnered with Health Nest Uganda (HENU) in a bid to support older persons in Entebbe engage in income generating projects rather than wait for hand outs. According to HENU’s Arthur Namara, they (HENU) got a grant from the Canadian Government that was used to purchase six bricket making machines which were distributed to older Persons groups in Bugonga, Katabi, Kitubulu, Kabaale, Nkumba and Kiwafu zones.

    “We purchased the bricket making machines to enable our older persons make brickets which they will sell as an alternative source of fuel other than Charcoal. The older persons in the various groups have successfully completed the training on how to use the bricket making machines and we are now focused on identifying market for the brickets. We also acquired a blood pressure testing machine and a glucometer which the older persons use regularly to test their blood pressure and diabetes. Through our interactive discussions with older persons we emphasize four key elements that include Health, Nutrition, Sanitation and regular exercises to promote active aging”, Namara revealed.

    Cossy Mbabazi, the Chairperson Katabi Ekili Ewala Elderly Association hailed the Canadian government and HENU for supporting the older persons in Entebbe engage in income generating projects. She revealed that besides acquiring skills in bricket making, the older persons have acquired skills in mushroom growing, soap making and also engage in weaving mats.
