In a bid to promote tourism around Entebbe Municipality, Entebbe Municipal Council in conjunction with the Entebbe Tourism Association and Uganda Tourism Board are erecting a monument in honor and Memory of Israeli Prime Minister’s Late Brother Jonathan Netanyahu who was killed while commanding the 90 minutes Raid at Entebbe Airport during Idi Amin’s regime in 1976. He was killed while trying to rescue over 106 Israelis that were held hostage at Entebbe Airport by Idi Amin.

The monument will be erected by UBENS International Limited, an Israeli construction at a cost of USD350,000 approximately (Ush1bn).

Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony that was held at Changsha Primary School on Wednesday, Tourism minister Maria Mutagamba urged Entebbe Municipality residents to embrace the tourism potential adding that it is an opportunity for Uganda and Israel to strengthen the different cultures and relations. She urged the residents to ensure that Entebbe being the gate way into the country should be clean at all times.

Mayor Kayanja noted that once the monument is complete it will create more jobs for the locals such as tour guides and will increase on the tourism revenue for the town. The monument is expected to be completed by end of June and will be commissioned by the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who will pay a state visit to Uganda in July.
