Uganda Woodball Federation President Paul Mark Kayongo who also doubles as the International Woodball Vice President (Africa) has kick started programs to ensure the game of woodball spreads across the Africa continent. Kayongo who was addressing the 1st Africa Woodball workshop that was held at the Nabinoonya Beach Conference Room on Wednesday revealed that key on his agenda is to ensure that all African Countries interested in the sport elect member committees that will promote the sport of woodball in their countries. Kayongo also underscored the need to have an African Woodball Federation that will among others organize regular tournaments and championships.
We (IWBF) have started programs to promote Wood ball across Africa and key on our agenda is to ensure that all African Countries interested in the sport elect member committees that will organize championships and tournaments. I would like to thank all the six foreign countries (Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Burundi and Nigeria) for their enthusiasm towards the sport of Wood ball. I appeal to all the foreign countries to work together to promote Wood ball in Africa, Kayongo stated.

Meanwhile Entebbe Municipality Mayor Kayanja Vincent DePaul who also graced the workshop urged young people to embrace the game of wood ball adding that young people like Entebbe Junior’s Kayongo Jeff Jr. and Lillian Zawedde have represented Uganda at several International championships. He noted that through sports Uganda can promote it’s Tourism Industry.
Wood ball is a good game, after the workshop I’ll have a discussion with our minister of sports so that the sport can be introduced in the country. Wood ball isn’t like football where players get injuries all the time, Chance Safari from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) told entebbenews.
I’ve learnt a lot from the wood ball workshop and once I return to Rwanda I’ll introduce the sport to different communities around the country. Like all other sports, one can create many friends through wood ball, Rwanda participant Bruno Bossa Tumukunde told entebbenews.
The participants have been trained in different aspects of Wood ball development, a case for Uganda, Wood ball rules, Wood ball basic Movements and the Explanation for Africa. The two day workshop climaxes tomorrow Thursday.
