Police in Entebbe clashed with Democratic Party supporters at their campaign rally that was held in Kitooro on Friday. Police acting on the orders of Kitooro Police post OC Station Nabutoono stormed the Democratic Party campaign rally that was held at the Kitooro Market after the flag bearers campaigned beyond the gazetted 6pm official closing time. A scuffle ensued after two police officers and Nabutoono wanted to confiscate the public Address system. However the rowdy DP Supporters overpowered the police cops but eventually agreed to end the rally that had gone past 6pm to 7pm. No one was injured in the scuffle.
Meanwhile the ruling National Resistance Movement Party is in panic mood and thinking hard to bring down the Democratic Party in the upcoming general elections. This follows a massive campaign rally in Kitooro where the party flag bearers begged the electorate to entrust them with another five year term. NRM Party flag bearers who are currently getting lukewarm crowds on their campaign rallies have been challenged by the Democratic Party to up their game.
Incumbent Mayor Kayanja Vincent DePaul promised to fix all roads and drainage channels in the Municipality. He also promised to continue with the installation of solar-powered street lights in other parts of the town. He scoffed at outgoing Member of Parliament Hon. Muhammad Kawuma for being a petty leader who failed in his plan to bring him down.
Michael Kakembo Mbwatekamwa who is vying for the parliamentary seat pledged to be a voice for everyone as well as lobby for jobs for the youth who are suffering the brunt of unemployment. He pledged to work with CAA to ensure that residents in Entebbe are given first priority when employment opportunities arise.
Outgoing Busiro south MP Joseph Balikuddembe who was guest speaker at the rally urged the electorate to give Mayor Kayanja and his team another five year term to consolidate his achievements in the town.
