
A Uganda People’s Defense Forces contingent of 108 soldiers safely arrived home on Thursday after an intense three weeks training in South Africa. The 108 soldiers safely touched down at the army air base in Entebbe aboard aN Angolan Antonov aircraft and were welcomed by the UPDF Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Wilson Mbadi. The three weeks training mainly comprised of field training exercise to check the readiness of the UPDF and inter-operability of the African forces.
Maj. Gen. Mbadi commended the UPDF Soldiers and urged them to use the skills attained to enhance military-military relations with other African armies.


I would like to thank you (Soldiers) for keeping the Ugandan flag high. This is the first of its kind and I’m hopeful that training will improve our ability to work with other African armies to enhance military –military relations. Maj. Gen. Mbadi stated.
He added:
The training is also in line with our long term vision “African Solutions to African Problems”. Over 5000 soldiers from African forces including 41 Rwandese soldiers participated in the multi-national, multi-dimensional training exercise which also included how to intervene in crises on the African continent.
Other top army bosses who welcomed the UPDF Contingent included Brig. Matthew Gureme Chief Of Staff Uganda Rapid deployment capacity centre and Lt. Col. Fred Matsiko Director In-land training UPDF.
