Playing amidst a handful of fans, Entebbe FC begun the lower Fufa Big league 2015/16 season with a 1-0 victory over Hoima based Suncity FC at the Bugonga football Ground on Thursday. New signing and former player Abdul Hussein scored the only goal of the match in the 13th minute to hand his side a much needed opening league victory. Abdul and Ndugwa Abraham kept the heat on the opponents though most of their shots were off target while the others hit the woodwork. Suncity had two of their goals disallowed after they were scored from the offside position. New Entebbe goalie Paul Sseruwu proved his worth after his saved a couple of shots from the opponents in the dying minutes of the match. Entebbe FC has had a massive overhaul and recruited new players including free agent Anthony Bayo who will bolster the defence. Bayo is the kid brother to Masavu’s Omarion Andama.
Meanwhile the club also managed to bring onboard a new chairman piet Djong a Dutch national and JP Cuttings Boss who took over from Christopher Ssebuliba who abandoned the club after he secured a juicy job in Buganda Kingdom as head of the kingdom’s tourism board.
Elsewhere Masavu FC secured a 2-0 victory away to Masaka Local council. Abdul Aziz and Charles Odeke were the goal scorers for the Entebbe based side.
Entebbe coach Makumbi Richard vowed to guide his side back to top flight premier league.
“The match was difficult. We weren’t well prepared, there was no build up match and we have had lots of new players. Our target is to return to the top league and I believe we shall achieve our goal at the end of the season” Makumbi stated.
Entebbe FC will take on Wakiso FC on October 15 in Wakiso while Masavu FC will host Synergy FC at the Katabi football ground. Matches kick off at 4pm.
