
Over four hundred school teachers have turned in big number to get vaccinated against COVID 19 during a two days’ vaccination exercise in Entebbe municipality.
Hundreds of school teachers from nursery to tertiary institutions flocked designated vaccination centers including St Joseph Katabi primary school, Kiwafu primary school and Kigungu health center to get free jabs of COV1D 19 before the official re-opening of school underway.
This was revealed yesterday by Sarah Monica Nabirye, a senior educationist at the Entebbe municipal council.
The vaccination exercise started in the morning at different vaccination centers to evening and cartered for teaching staff and supporting staff plus several others to gatemen.
“It’s only pregnant teachers that were denied vaccination ahead of the schools re-opening but their cases will be handled”, said Dr Kalyesubula.
Many teachers have not been vaccinated and yet schools are about to re-open and we saw it wise to vaccinate teachers and supporting staffs including cooks, added Nabirye.
“Teachers were vaccinated with a one dose SINOVAC vaccine and another one is expected around mid September”, said senior medic.
All teachers to be vaccinated and it’s compulsory to every teacher to be vaccinated before schools re-open.
“ I don’t expect any teacher to dodge this vaccination exercise, may be a few cases of stubborn teachers”, said Sarah Monica Nabirye also principal education officer for Entebbe municipal council.
Pregnant teachers were referred to later date and exempted after case by case assessment, added Nabirye.
Florence Mbabazi, is one of those few cases that were exempted from being vaccinated after examing her with boiling tot inside her tummy.
