Uganda Police in Rukungiri district are hunting for a man who allegedly killed another man for being in a romantic relationship with his mother after his father’s death.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi police spokesman identified the deceased as Alex Gumoshabe, 38-year-old resident of Rwakiriba Village in Bugangari Sub-county.
Maaet says about 5 months ago, Julius Katurebe died, leaving behind a widow Emily Kyomugisha, and a number of orphans.
However, after the husband’s death, Kyomugisha fell in love with Gumoshabe until on 15th April 2022 when she hosted him at her home in the night.
One of his sons Tofayo Turinawe was unhappy with the guest and, he picked a piece of timber and started beating him and his mother.
The mother (Emily) managed to run away but the deceased was beaten into coma and left for the dead till the morning of 16th April 2022 when he was picked and taken to Karoli Lwanga Hospital Nyakibaale where he died on arrival.
In response, angry residents demolished the home of Emily, forcing the entire family to flee the village.
Maate says that statements were recorded from some witnesses and that efforts to trace for the suspect are ongoing.
