Uganda has secured a prestigious seat on the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council, a move hailed as a landmark achievement for the country’s aviation industry.
The election, held in Montreal, Canada, grants Uganda direct influence in shaping global aviation policies and standards.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) announced that this victory reflects Uganda’s growing reputation for improving aviation safety, compliance, and infrastructure.
Officials noted that the country’s seat on the ICAO Council will strengthen its voice on matters of air safety, security, and sustainable development.

Transport Minister Gen. Katumba Wamala praised the development, saying it is a testament to Uganda’s progress and recognition on the international stage.
He emphasized that the council position will also help amplify Africa’s concerns, including the need for better connectivity and equitable access to modern aviation technology.
The ICAO Council plays a key role in establishing global standards for civil aviation. Uganda’s presence on the council is expected to boost investor confidence, foster stronger partnerships, and open more opportunities for the country’s aviation sector to grow.
