Uganda Police Force headquarters and the National Security Command Centre in Naguru have been closed to the public and other staff.

According to the Police spokesperson Fred Enanga, the security offices have been closed due to the increasing threat of Covid-19 infections and deaths in the Kampala Metropolitan area.

“The duration under which our headquarters is closed is three days. That is when the process of decontamination, fumigation and testing of personnel shall have been concluded,” said Enanga.

Enanga stated that the process has began today Monday morning and it involves testing of all police officers working both at the headquarters and the Security CCTV national command center.

On the possibility of having all police officers countrywide tested for Covid-19, he said they are working closely with the Ministry of Health to continue with the random testing that has been ongoing.

Enanga revealed that most of the officers operating in Kampala Metropolitan have been tested as well as those in Isingiro, Jinja and Masindi districts.

However, it has been established that there is also a possibility to carry out a sanitization process in all the 1600 Police stations in the country by government.

“This is still under a feasibility study since it is quite expensive,” said Enanga.

On Sunday, the Police Chief Political Commissar AIGP Asan Kasingye who seats at the security headquarters tested positive for Covid-19.

Enanga also told the press that the agency will ensure that they test all their officers because they come in close contact with members of the public on a daily basis.
