Two teachers have been arrested for allegedly sabotaging the polio vaccination campaign. Last week, the government launched the vaccination exercise among children below five years.

The teachers of St Anthony Kindergarten and Moonlight both in Maganjo were arrested by the District Health Team and the Police who stormed ten schools in Nansana municipality to enforce the vaccination exercise on Thursday.

The names of the teachers were withheld and are detained at Nansana police station pending investigations.

Emmanuel Ddamba, the health inspector Wakiso district said that the teachers will be put to task to explain why they refused the children to be vaccinated in their respective schools.

Patricia Nakalanzi explained that they were still waiting for the parents of the children to sign consent forms before they could allow vaccination.

A member of the Village Health Team, Alice Birungi said that some parents instructed teachers not to allow their children to be vaccinated.

Wakiso Resident District Commissioner, Justine Mbabazi emphasized that it is government policy to ensure that all children aged 5 years and below are vaccinated against polio.
