Suspended Rubaga Division Deputy Resident City Commissioner (DRCC), Anderson Burora, has petitioned President Yoweri Museveni seeking early retirement from public service, citing eroded public trust in his office and the image of the president which is currently at stake.
Burora is on a 28-day suspension for alleged misconduct following his consistent stand against corruption using media to criticize parliament over allegations of financial mismanagement and abuse of office. Recently, the office of the president confirmed that Burora is set for interdiction and his salary would be slashed by a half pending investigations into allegations of misconduct.
In a letter copied to the office of the president and the minister for presidency Milly Babalanda, Burora cites his refusal to apologize to speaker Anita Annet Among, and that he has learnt that president Museveni ordered for his suspension immediately after meeting Anita Among on 13th March 2024.
Going forward, Burora says he cannot go back to office even if the suspension is lifted, because his office would have lost public trust and other public servants including RDCs will fear to speak against the corrupt for fear of reprisal.
“Your excellency, having been your representative, the decision for my suspension has brought into disrepute your office as follows:
1. loss of trust in whether I can ably represent you, cognizant that the suspension was triggered by corruption related comments.
2. If my suspension was to be lifted, the attitude of the public towards my office will be different, which will affect my productivity.
3. The precedent will deter other RDCs from pursuing the corrupt.
4. Corruption will rise because public servants will prefer silence to remain in good books of their superiors.

“Your excellency, it is on these grounds that I request you to retire me from public service, so that I don’t further bring disrepute to your name, office and government” Burora noted.
